One evening in high school my mom and I went to dinner at our favorite Chinese restaurant. At one point I told her of an extraordinary event that happened a few nights earlier.
Something woke me up in the middle of the night. I turned to look at the digital clock radio. It was 3:12am. I turned to look at the left side of my bed, saw a tall figure standing there smiling at me. Given that the figure had long hair and was what I described as incredibly beautiful, I assumed it was a female. Except…
The figure was wearing a shirt and pants with boots that came up over the knee. “She” also wore a beautiful fur-lined cloak, a style I associated with Medieval wealth.
I was puzzled that a female would be wearing pants.
As I finished my story I noticed my mom had gone pale. I asked what the problem was.
It wasn’t like she didn’t know I regularly saw ghosts.
She told me that that same night something woke her up in the middle of the night. She looked at the clock next to her bed. It read 2:50am. Disturbed, she got up and went in the hall to see if she could figure out what woke her. She said she heard a noise downstairs and that as she stood there something came up the stairs.
She didn’t see it but she heard “a dress ruffling” as it walked up the stairs and into my bedroom.
Shocked, I asked her why she didn’t wake me up if she knew there was a ghost in my room.
Obviously, there’s no answer for that.
While I recount this event in After Here: The Celestial Plane and What Happens When We Die, I explain how I figured out this “well-dressed ghost” was actually Metatron in Lessons From the Edge: An Author’s Guide to Metatron’s Army.
The book will be available spring 2021.
